How To Fall In Love With Letters, According To A Typography Icon // and Break the Rules & 7 Other Lessons from Legendary Graphic Designers
I really liked the first article "How to Fall In Love With Letters, According To A Typography Icon." I had never heard of Alan Peckolick until reading this article but found his story of how he became a part of the design world. It is interesting to see his journey through his art-making process from when he was a child, to his college years, and then to working with Saul Bass. I find it amazing how he went from being dropped from Pratt's art program to then entering the design field. I related with his experience of feeling overwhelmed when he entered into graphic design. Where I grew up I was never introduced to graphic design and the technologies that are used within this field. At times when I was first learning the programs, I felt inadequate and began to doubt my choice of this career path. But after practice and time, I began to love the things I was learning and wanted to learn more.
Later in the article, he talks about his interaction with Saul Bass, who is a very iconic graphic designer. He went to go see Bass, but Bass was called back to NY. After a year had passed Saul Bass called Alan Peckolick for an interview, which resulted in a job offer. I think it is crazy that Alan Peckolick got this opportunity at such a young age. Couldn't imagine having this opportunity while also making the decision to move across the country at 18.
