When looking into inspiration from artists that work with archives there were two new artists that I came across those capture elements that I want to emulate in my next project. The first example is from an artist, Danielle Delph who created the project, If I Had Known My Mother Back Then. The project is of Delph photoshopping herself into her mother's old childhood photos to create a world where they would have looked like they were friends growing up together. I was instantly drawn into the concept of If I Had Known My Mother Back Then and has inspired me to potentially want to work with placing myself into old family archives. I would like to focus more on the idea of how family members of the past influenced and have shaped the person that I have become today. The second artist that I found doing research was Alanna Fields, whose work investigates and challenges the representations of Black queer identity and history through the lens of photography. I mostly gravitated to the series called As We Were since many of the images have unique compositions and the layering of color, fabric, and other materials. I find inspiration in the way that the images were composed and the layers that are placed on top of the archived photos. The last artist that I found ideas from was Roland Quelven. The video link is an example of the layering of images, text, and sound that I thought was a good example of the route I wanted to take my next project in.
