 Moonrise Kingdom Motion Graphic Title

Moonrise Kingdom

This motion graphic animation is a take on the Wes Anderson film, Moonrise Kingdom. I have recently discovered upon some of Anderson's work and have been inspired by his choice of color, typography, and graphic quality that his films take on.  The film is set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960's, as a young boy and girl fall in love they are moved to run away together. This leads for the town to go on a search party for them turning the the town upside down. This motion graphic title sequence is an example drawing upon the inspiration of the aesthetic of the film. This title sequence takes on the similar color pallatte of yellow that Moonrise Kingdom distinctly has. Some things that I was drawn to was the use of halftone texture, certain motion that elements had in the title, and the use visual elements suggesting the camp setting of the film. The use of halftone adds to the vintage feel which this film has based on the time period that Moonrise Kingdom is set in. The other element I was excited by was the moving of the flag, the x on the map, and field mate. The movement was simple but still was visually very interesting.

Godfather of Harlem Title Sequence

Godfather of Harlem

I had discovered this title sequence previously in other classes when doing visual research for inspiration on ways artists have incorporating photomontage compositions into their work. Upon further research I had learned that the main title is an homage to the collages created by African American artist Romare Bearden in the 1960's. The compositions are made from torn images from popular magazines and then assembled into visually powerful statements on African-American life. I am really drawn to the use of cut shapes and figures that are collaged to set the story and mood for the tv series Godfather of Harlem. The collaged pieces feel tactile and tangible that add texture to the compositions. I am drawn to work that refers back to history and throughout this title sequence there is historical clips that are incorpoated into the story telling such as videos of Jackie O, JFK, Mohammad Ali, and other important figures of the 60's.

Abstract: The Art of Design

Abstract: The Art of Design

This video example is taken from the Netflix series Abstract: The Art of Design, which takes an in-depth look into modern contemporary design with some of the world's most highly regarded designers. The video clip offers an insight into the ways motion graphics have been incorporated into the various episodes of the series. The main thing that I was gravitated to in this example is the clips that feature motion in the typography. When first watching the series the font style and motion made me think of the designer Paula Scher, who is a designer that I look up to. I like how movement suggests type and how it also breaks it which is an interesting way of using movement to attract viewers attentions. Also towards the end of this video clip there a time when the screen is split into different sections and move as new images appear on screen. I like how the video adapts to the different images suggesting a moving poster advertisement that one may see in Times Square.
