3 Motion Graphic Examples for TSM

When looking for inspiration on what I might like to do for my first project in this motion graphic class I was immediately drawn to the collage movement period in art history. I have always been drawn to collage because it often reflects much of the current work that I am making, which is collaging images, documents, and other family artifacts. In this video that I was particularly drawn to the beginning where they had mentioned about Ellis Island and shaped the story around immigration in America. Ellis Island was originally the inspiration for the series of work that I have been creating within the last few years of my undergraduate degree. I think it would be interesting to use that section of the video as inspiration for maybe this project or future work in this class. I also really liked the part where they used the circles to make the family tree but then used motion and sound to suggest what the audio was saying about leaving their home countries for America. I thought that was an effective and creative way to use motion and sound. I think this is something that will be very important when designing my own animation for project one.

The other idea that I had for this upcoming project would focus on typography. I am really drawn to screen print posters of the 60's and 70's, so I think it could be a direction for this upcoming project. When I found this I was immediately drawn to the way the motion was used to highlight the typography. During the video I found the video to be very graphic, which is what I loved about the whole thing. The use of shape, form, color, typography, halftone, and overlay just felt like this could be a direction that I would be interested in going in to for the first project. I also noticed how this video would be a great example of using the elements that we have learned so far in after effects and could be used to create a motion graphic project. I thought the movement is simple and reflects some of the key movements that were shown to us during class these first two weeks. I think it is also interesting to notice how the movement reflected the sound that it was paired with. I am not sure if this project will be incorporating sound but I feel like this is something valueable to notice when watching other videos for inspiration.
I thought that this example reflected somewhat of the idea that I had in mind with the typographic based motion graphic design that would resemble the silk screen printing. This one doesn't exactly have the font type that I am interested in but there is a specific emphasis on the typography and the motion of the letters and words in the video. It almost reminded me of the last post that I made discussing the motion that was associate with the Abstract the art of design video. I also was really interested how some of the letters are broken up which could be an interesting concept that I could explore in this upcoming project.
