12 principles of animation
I have recently experienced the 12 principles of animation when doing visual research for the first collage animation that I am creating for this class. Some of the examples that I were drawn to were the slow in and slow out, secondary motion, and anticipation. When developing my first project I really was trying to incorporate the ease in and ease out in my project because having smooth transitions makes the viewer feel as though they are being thoughtfully guided through the animation. One example that I felt was successfull in achieving this principle of animation was a video surrounding Katherine Hepburn. The video used a lot of easing for the transitions that are used as shapes and images that were in the scene of the sequence. I also was really drawn to this animation because it reflected the vintage and retro aesthetic that I was also going for in this first project. The other aspect that I have noticed in other animations that I looked at for visual research included principles like secondary motion and anticipation, which gives the animation a more human feel and builds energy. As a result of these principles the animation will have a smoother feel and will make it more visually successful. All 12 principles are vital to understand when creating this first project and by incorporating them in my work will benefit me greatly.
