TSM ASSIGN 2 - Surreal/Unfunctional Object

The two objects that I was playing with for this assignment are a rocking chair and a carousel horse. Growing up with a passion for horses anything that was horse-related I loved. I remember during the summers when my parents would take me up to Long Island, NY we would go to this place where they always had a carousel. I would make my parents let me ride as many times as I could, each time I would choose a new horse to ride and would name it. There was something so calming about rocking up and down as you spun around in circles. There was a sense of freedom and the feeling of riding a horse always felt so comforting and freeing to me. I always imagined that I was riding my own horse that I would have of my own someday. Carousel horses have always had a special place in my heart and remind me of my childhood and the fond daydreaming about riding horses. I thought it would be interesting to combine aspects of the carousel and the rocking chair into one 3D model. The frustrating thing is that one can sit on it but the rounded edges found on a rocking chair don't touch the ground, thus not allowing the person to rock back and forth. While designing this object that I kept having the urge to rock back and forth which is a natural instinct when sitting in a rocking chair. I think it is interesting that both objects are intended for movement, but as the designer, I am restricting that.
