TSM - 3d Self manipulation
I have never created a self-portrait artwork that is so literal, when I do create I often make work that is associated with my exploration of understanding my multicultural background. In my work I want to understand myself better and the idea of remembrance. I am overwhelmed by the power of remembrance and the thought of the many lives going back thousands of years had gone into the making of me. In this recent season in my work, I have been exploring and creating work around my Irish roots. I have always had a strong connection to this heritage and culture and it has helped define me into the person that I am today. In this recent exploration of my Irish identity, I wanted to create a 3d self-portrait that reflected my recent exploration endeavors as well as looking at iconic Celtic symbols. I created a triquetra, also known as a trinity knot. This symbol is thought to be the oldest symbol of spirituality. It is depicted in the 9th century Book of Kells, which is an illuminated manuscript of the New Testament of the gospel. What I love about the knot is that the lines are interwoven between each other and are continuous.
