TSM Assignment 1 - interior space

 

For this assignment, I created an interior space that reflected mid-century interior design and objects that were often found in that time period. When constructing this interior I focused on the furniture design and the color palette of the scene so that it would reflect the characteristics of this period of interior design. The objects that I spent the most time constructing were the furnace, couch, and two chairs which were vital to emulating mid-century furniture. After constructing the furniture objects I wanted to add accents to space by incorporating small objects in the home that are often overlooked like the tv and the phone. I see these pieces as sculptures that complement the overall design of the space. Another aspect that I focused on was the interior lighting, when choosing light I wanted it to have a warmth and comforting feeling. Having the yellow warmth of the light is to invite the viewer to feel nostalgic and to feel as though they stepped into the comfort of their own home. One of the challenges that I had with this project was being able to create the light and shadow that would come from the lamp that is placed next to the couch.
