Graphic Design 1 and TSM Critique notes
Graphic Design
My assignment was based around my love for horses and how they are incorporated into my daily life. The idea for this project was to design a typeface using found components that are apart of my daily life from the influence of the equestrian world. When completing this project I was looking for found objects and/or environments to create each letter form. Horses have been a huge part of my life and has influenced my art making processes and has shaped me into the person that I am today. Through this project I wanted to show the letters that can be found through horses themselves and the objects that are associated within the equestrian world. During my critique I was mentioned that there seemed to have a key that letters matched up with the name of the objects themselves. It was interesting to see that this key element showed up within my work without me doing it purposefully. Another thing that was mentioned during the critique was that some of the letters were harder to find in the images. One way that I could fix this was by masking the letters themselves to make them easier to find or to make all of the letters more for the viewer to have to look for. With having the viewer having to look for the letters is communicates something totally different compared to the letters being clearly visible. When thinking about design it is vital to make sure that I have a clear vision for the way in which my designs are communicated to the viewer.

Before the critique had started for this class the idea of presentation was brought up. When composing for a video it is important to the think of the way in which my video can be displayed. By going over the way we can compose our work and how display plays a vital role in the message of the video. From a projection on to objects, size of the projection, and the setting in which the video is shown are all things to take into consideration when developing the ideas for a video project.
During my critiique in particular exposure, stabilization, and color correction were all things that could be adjusted within my video. Since this was my first time ever making video art I was still very new to the techniques of how to make sure that I have the correct exposure and to make sure my videos were stabilized. Now that I have the critique under my belt I know ways in which I can make sure that I don't have those mistakes in my future videos.
